Verbal Logical Interpretation And Reasoning Questions

Dear Reader, below are three logical interpretation and reasoning questions for your practice.

Question 1

In Chennai city there are four women named A,B,C and D. They always compare themselves in respect of richness and their age. A is the oldest but not the poorest. C is the richest but not the oldest. B is older than D but not than A or C. A is richer than B but not than D. The four women meet near Nandambakkam Industrial Estate. Their names are to be arranged (descending) in respect of age and richness, respectively as

a) ABCD, CADB b) ACBD, CDAB C) ACBD, CDBA d) ACDB, CDAB

Answer : b) ACBD, CDAB

Reason :

For such kind of questions, there can be two approaches. Either to plot the values according to the question statements Or by comparing options one by one with the statements in question. Usually second method of comparing options one by one with the statements in questions could be a bit faster approach.

Consider Option a)
Age Order Given : ABCD
Richness Order Given : CADB

Interpretation : One of the statements in question says "B is older than D but not than A or C". Hence there is no way for B to come ahead of C as in the option a. Hence option a) cannot be true.

Consider Option b)
Age Order Given : ACBD
Richness Order Given : CDAB

Interpretation : You can find all the question statements regarding age and richness hold true when compared with option b. Hence option b is the correct answer.

Question 2.

Read the following passage and say which of the following statements is true?
There are three ladies in a meeting: Mrs. Yellow, Mrs. Green and Mrs. Brown. They are wearing yellow, green and brown sarees. Mrs. Yellow says: “ Did you notice that the colours of our sarees are different from our names?” the person who is wearing the green saree says . “Yes, you are right!”

If the above information is true then which of the following statement is true?
a. Mrs.Yellow was wearing a brown saree
b. Mrs. Green was wearing a brown saree
c. Mrs. Brown was wearing the Yellow saree.

Answer : a)Mrs.Yellow was wearing a brown saree

Reason :

It is given that Mrs. Yellow was not wearing a yellow saree because of her statement. She was also not wearing the green saree because one wearing the green saree agreed to the statement. Therefore Mrs. Yellow was wearing a brown saree. Mrs. Green was wearing a yellow saree and Mrs. Brown was wearing the green saree

Question 3

Ramesh, Madhusudhan, Sanjeevan, Kannayiram and Keshav are sitting in a circle facing the centre. Ramesh is immediate left of Sanjeevan. Kannayiram is between Sanjeevan and Keshav.

If the above information is true then which of the following is true?
a) Keshav is on the immediate left of Ramesh.
b) Kannayiram is on the immediate left of Ramesh.
c) Madhusudhan is on the immediate left of Ramesh.

Answer : c). Madhusudhan is on the immediate left of Ramesh.

Reason :

Madhusudhan is on the immediate left of Ramesh is correct. Based on the information given the seating arrangement will be (anti clockwise) Keshav, Kannayiram, Sanjeevan, Ramesh, Madhusudhan
